Bezos's Billions

Two days ago, news outlets across the country were clamoring about a new landmark accomplished by humanity. Jeff Bezos became the first person to be worth $200 Billon dollars… that’s billion with a B. Now we see investment companies managing that kind of money on a regular basis and the government tosses Billions around like skittles, but seeing a person realize that sort of wealth makes us sit back and try to rationalize how big a number that actually is.

Here are a few brain scratchers to help illustrate what a Billion of something actually is.

One Million seconds is 11.57 Days. One billion seconds is 31.7 years. 200 billion seconds is 6,341 years…

If you were around when the pyramids of Giza were built in Ancient Egypt and saved $10,000 per day until today you would have 16.8 Billion dollars.

Jeff Bezos is a millionaire two hundred thousand times over.

If you stacked 1 Billion dollars in $100 bills they would be 3,585 feet tall which is about the height of Mt. Davis, the tallest mountain in Pennsylvania, and would weigh 20,000 lbs.

So there’s some light pondering fodder for your weekend. Today’s tech companies really are incredible as they continue to push people’s minds past what we previously were able to understand.  Jeff Bezos has taken the reins as the next Bill Gates. We’ll see how long it takes before we have the next Jeff Bezos and his Billions today are overtaken by another unbelievable fortune.
